How to create a field reference?

Hi,
in LibreOffice Writer 3.6.3.2 I do the following:
a) Press F12 key to insert numbering (so 1. appear as first two characters)
b) Type in some text like: “Some text” (without double quotes) and press ENTER.
c) New line appears (“2.” appear as first two characters). Type in some text like “Text referencing to point 1.”
d) Move cursor to the beginning of first line (before letter f) and press ENTER.
Now problem appears. Text in line number 3 is written “3. Text referencing to point 1.” → so 1. should be now number 2.

How to create some reference field or something that would automatically change point “1.” to “2.”?
Thanks

I am not really sure if I understand your question fully.

I would try Insert>Cross reference>Numbered Paragraphs.

This looks fine if document is exported to PDF, but during editing Writer displays __RefNumPara__1_2092676318 How to hide this reference and display real number like it is printed? I already tried CTRL+F10 to hide non-printing characters, but it does not hide this reference number.

the solution should be:

tools>options>writer>view and there uncheck Field codes

This hides the code just like I need. Thanks for help.
