Formula references broken after reopening doc-file.

I’m writing a text in LibreOffice Writer (Version Version: 5.2.3.2 on Ubuntu 16.04) with several numbered formulas. When I insert a reference to one of these formulas, it appears grey-shaded and works properly, i.e. it changes accordingly when a formula is added or removed.

However, when I close and reopen the document, the reference is broken. It is not grey-shaded any more and doesn’t change. It seems to be plain text at that point.
Is that a bug or some wrong configuration from my side?

You save in the docx format? It’s a bug. See https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42346

Thanks! I had a look at the bug report. That problem is very unfortunate but apparently a complicated thing to solve.

The remedy is: don’t save in docx format if you don’t really need to. Lots of people save in the docx format by default, even if a document is for their own use. That’s not a good idea. You should only save as docx when you have to send a file to somebody who doesn’t have Libre. MSO nowadays opens ODF files, so there’s no need to mutilate your documents by converting them to a format that it isn’t really compatible with.

There’s a problem in your plan: M$O has never fully and correctly supported ODF, it’ll complain about non-existing syntax error in XML code, displays it wrong or is missing something. That’s last time I tried with M$O 2016.

Then you can still export to PDF. In any case, you should only save in MSO format when you send your work to somebody else, there’s no need to do so when you are still working on something. And it’s not my plan, it’s my advice to you, an advice often given on the OpenOffice community forum.
