Page number issue when combining multiple documents

I have combined two text documents into a single document in Libreoffice. The first document is 107 pages & the second is 56 pages. Libreoffice seems to “know” that there are two documents in one because the page count resets when I get to the second document. For example, the page count goes from 107 to 109 (where did 108 go?), & then says Page 109 of 164 (Page 1), Page 110 of 164 (Page 2), etc. Is there any way to fix this so that when I put page numbers into the document, they will be formatted correctly?

Thank you for your help.

Does the second document begin with a forced left or right page (as defined in a page style, for instance)? In that case, if the first document ends on a left page (right) and your second starts on a left (right) page as well, Libre will insert a hidden blank page. If it’s something else, please provide more information.

EDIT: Put the cursor in the first paragraph of the first page of what was the second document. Select Format - Paragraph, Text Flow tab. In the Breaks section, reset the value in Page number. You can also remove the tick mark in Insert - Page etc.

I did not configure either of the documents to start on a left/right page. Is there something else that might be an issue?

Have you done any tricks on page numbering in the second document? How did you combine the documents? Dit you insert the second one in the first or are you working with a master document?

I haven’t actually put page numbers on the document yet, I’m referring to the page count that is on the bottom left of the Libreoffice window.

The two documents were originally two separate .odt files. I created a blank .odt file & simply copied & pasted the contents of the two documents into this one larger document. Is there a better way to combine documents than this?

Thanks for your help.

There’s nothing wrong with that method to combine files. You can enable a footer and put in a page number field and see what it does.

I just tried this. The page numbers for my second document follow their “original” page number. For example, I am on page 135 of 164 (page 27). When I did Insert → Page number, it put “27” on the page, so it seems that Libreoffice still believes that these are two independent documents with separate page counts, not two documents combined into one.

It worked, thank you very much!!!
