LibreOffice 5.2.4.2 Base, iMac: error: 'no JRE' despite installing Oracle JDK

Base does not work on my iMac (iOS 10.12.2) - the error message claims there is no JRE yet my iMac has the latest installed. This problem also occurs on another Mac - exactly the same error message.

On the Mac you need to install JDK from Oracle.

Yep, that is exactly what I have done, I still get the LibreOffice error message that says, “LibreOffice requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this task. Please install a JRE and restart LibreOffice.”

If you haven’t done so already, from any open LO page, on the menu go to Tools->Options.... Under LibreOffice in left panel select Advanced. Now in right panel, make sure Use a java runtime environment is selected. Within a few seconds installed versions should appear in window. Select one, then OK button. Only failure I’ve seen where this didn’t work was an errant JDK install and re-installing JDK then worked.

@Ratsliger: In Mac OSX there is not Tools->Options but Preference.

@charlie.it Thank You.

I find all of this very poor - not your answers but simply that LibreOffice Base won’t start - I would have though something as fundamental as this would be tested/work. Having found the page you refer to it shows no JRE listed in the screen view but it does say at the top of the screen that a ‘Java runtime environment (JRE) is already installed’ - sadly Base still won’t run - it looks like I am going to have to get a PC with Windows (Yuk) and MS Office with Access (rip off!). :o(

@charlie.it As I don’t have/use a Mac, have you any further ideas as to the problem @Overtond is having? Since JDK has always been the solution I have no further ideas and your input is always welcome.

If my answer helped you, vote it with :heavy_check_mark: and with ∧ (here on the left)

Sadly not, I still get the LibreOffice error message that says, “LibreOffice requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this task. Please install a JRE and restart LibreOffice.”

So, it would seem for anyone using an iMac (or perhaps any Apple product using i7 technology) with macOS Sierra (10.12.2) with the latest JRE from Oracle (installed in the default location of the installer’s choice) then Base doesn’t start and all you get is the LibreOffice Base app cannot find the JRE it needs - here’s a thought - why not check for the presence of the appropriate JRE so that the problem can be corrected on install rather than allow the user to receive the disappointment later.

In the meantime, I cannot use this office suite without Base and with all the people involved with this project there is still no answer that provides anything that will fix this! :o(
