How do I use the value a cell from a sheet in a formula on another sheet?

I have a value on the second sheet in cell C2 → 02/01/2016
I have cells on other sheets with formula such as: → =TEXT(Sheet2.C2,“mmm - YYYY”)

Unfortunately the above equation (on the third sheet) yields the answer → Dec - 1899

Everything I find concerns filling and propagating, but not using in an equation.

Would appreciate some help.

Okay, I have it now.

I was using the word “Sheet2” as the reference, I used the name of the sheet and it worked.
