Fresh install on Windows 10 won't start

I can’t get LibreOffice to start on Windows 10. I just installed the Fresh version for the first time. The “soffice.bin” process is running and using 25% CPU. Writer, Calc, etc. all will not start.

LibreOffice 5.3.0.3
OS Name:                   Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
OS Version:                10.0.14393 N/A Build 14393

This system is running inside VMWare Player 7.1.4 build-3848939 if it makes a difference.

Just rebooted. The problem persists.

I had the same problem after reinstalling an update to 5.3.2.2 over win 10 - nothing worked until I checked in Task Manager and I had multiple Libber Office/ Calc etc background processes doing nothing - so I stopped/ deleted all of them and then restarted Libre Office - no problems now.
