Libreoffice doesn't find java 1.8 in Mac OS Sierra

Java is installed at /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java but Libreoffice doesn’t see it. I’ve tried to input it manually with no success (using Expert Configuration and adding this address to org.openoffice.java, VirtualMachine, Home.

I am using a MacBook Pro 13", mid 2014, Mac OS Sierra, Oracle Java 1.8.0_121.

On the Apple you need the full JDK instead of just the JRE. Also make sure that Libre and Java have the same bits size; 32 or 64.

I am having a similar problem with Mac OS 10.13.3 (High Sierra). Just installed LibreOffice 5.4.6.2 yesterday and Java V8 update 161 build 1.8-161-b12 today. I do not know the difference in JDK and JRE. Can you please point me in the right direction? Also not aware of bit sizes on the Mac - have never seen any reference to 32 or 64. Where do I look for that?

Thanks!

P.S. I am “Technically Challenged”
