How to get Times New Roman (despite following all advice)?

I tried just about everything in this link:

and still haven't been able to get Times New Roman in my LibreOffice 5.1.4.2 (and I'm running Linux Xubuntu 16.04).

Any help getting this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Did the fonts actually download? Are they in your font directory?

After the files are downloaded you need to update your font cache.

sudo fc-cache -f -v

Thanks for responding. There is a folder for msttcorefonts in usr/share/fonts/truetype but the folder is empty. The below is the window I got after attempting to download.

I got it. For some reason this time sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer installed the fonts.
