why are background colours lost on save?

I have a number of slides with a background colour of cyan shading to white.
After saving, when I reopen them all the cyan has reverted to black and I have to change each slide.
Why is this happening?

Impress 6.2.4.1 When editing gradients, they usually don't get saved in the document, but sometimes do. When Adding gradients, they never get saved in the document
