.doc date formatting error

I would upload a screen-shot, but I need > 3 points....

When I create a letter, and save as .doc, all appears well. Once I exit the file, however, the text I've entered before the date, eg. Wednesday, turns into the tiny font that comes when you type in "1st" or "2nd" etc.

So I end up with "Wednesday 1st..." all in the teeny-weeny font the "st" auto-tunes to. This is really annoying, because I have to fix it if I open & want to print, but I also can't attach it to emails without looking like a noob, and I'm trying to impress my new bosses so I get a new contract!

I never had this problem with Open Office, but I otherwise prefer what Libre has to offer, and because of the nature of MS's dominance I need to be able to make .doc etc.

Really appreciate your help!
