Writer displays no text

When I load up LibreOffice no text is displayed anywhere but the title bar. All the menus and everything are empty and only contain the underlines from words. In writer when I try to type the cursor moves as if I’m inputting text but nothing shows up.

image:

As you can see none of the menu options say anything when I go to open it. In the second image I have hilighted text which is invisible.

I have restarted my computer and I have fully uninstalled and reinstalled libreoffice. I am running windows 10 and am using libreoffice 5.3.1

edit: I tried installing the previous version to see if there were probems with the latest version but nothing changed.

Which previous version did you try? Did you try 5.2.x? If not you might try that. Also take a look at resetting your profile.

Win 10 Home AMD with R7 Graphics & R9 385x Discrete, LibreOfficeDev 6.00
Tried everything.
Switchable Graphics settings worked. Changed from High to Power Saving

  1. Start “AMD Radeon Settings”.
  2. Click on System (bottom right of window).
  3. In “Recent Applications” you might see “soffice.bin”. If so, click and change from “High” to “Power Saving”
  4. If you have it running, it will show up up under “Current Applications”. Do the same as step 3.
  5. Restart LibreOffice.
    Required 4 all LO apps?

LO user profile corruption, I had exactly that not too long ago. You have 2 options with it: either go rename the folder yourself, or use a command. Here’re both:

1.1) Shut down LO, open either the Run window (by Windows Key+R) or Explorer and give it %APPDATA%\libreoffice\4\ as address.

1.2) Rename the user folder. Try using LO normally now.

2.1) Open up Command Prompt (one way is Windows Key+R, then give it cmd)

2.2) Rename the folder: RENAME "%APPDATA%\libreoffice\4\user" "user (corrupted 2017-03-23)"

2.3) Quit Command Prompt and try using LO normally now.

I have the exact same problem on Windows 7, after updating at libreoffice 5.3.2 .
Uninstalling and reinstalling didn’t help.
Renaming “user” folder as mentioned above does not solve the problem. I have found some older posts in OpenOffice back in 2010 that have the exact same problem but on linux systems like this post over here [Solved] Linux: No text in OpenOffice.org menus (View topic) • Apache OpenOffice Community Forum.
Any suggestions most welcome

Same exact situation here. Reinstalling 5.3.2 didn’t help, renaming the user profile didn’t help. The combination of going back to 5.2.6 AND renaming the user profile did the trick.

Bug report for this: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107166

I had the same issue on a Computer running Windows 7.
Workaround: Disable “Aero” by switching to the “Windows 7 Basic” theme.

Thank you. It helped me.
Windows 7 Home Basic + LibO 5.3.3 x86_64.

I Tried to rename folder user but don’t work

I tried the version 5.4.0 beta2, same behavior

Hi not sure if this is the right way to solve it but it worked for me. Help -->restart in safe mode → customization → disable hardware acceleration.
once restarted the menu bar is showing fine.

Is it Required 4 all LO apps?

Try to disable Desktop Composition (Windows 7)

image description

I know this is old, but the problem seems to have occurred for me anew with 7.0.0 (x64) and 7.0.1.2 (x64) [Windows 7, AMD Radeon HD 8750]

There are answers on the following thread:

but the problem is more clearly stated in this thread.

I rebooted into safe mode:
Windows Key + R → msconfig → /boot\ → [x] Safe boot → restart

The text rendered.

I can’t seem to post an image, so, if you want to try it without rebooting into safe mode:
Alt+F12 top open Options [or Tools (3rd from the right), then Options (at the bottom)]
View (When the top item on the left is expanded, it’s 3rd option under it)

In the top right section, UN-check the 3rd checkbox down (Use Skia for all rendering)

Undo the msconfig option to boot into safe mode if you did, then restart.

The text renders correctly for me.
