AutoCAD .dwg

I have many old AutoCAD .dwg files that I would like to open , print or modify. Can this be done with LibreOffice?

I think not, but maybe you can find help to do it in: http://librecad.org/cms/home.html

Unfortunately I don’t think that LibreCAD has DWG support yet (license incompatibilities between LibreCAD and LibreDWG, AFAIK). I’m not even sure if the LibreDWG libraries are finished enough for general-purpose use.

It appears that many FOSS tools have support for the DXF format, so if you could do a batch conversion to DXF, you might be able to then open/modify/print those files with tools such as LibreCAD. It sounds like there are some proprietary file converters available for free (no cost), but I’m not sure how well the conversion process works.

Thanks @qubit1, for a detailed answer.

I can see that QCad has the file extension ‘dwg’ in its “open file” dialog.

I only have the free version of QCad ( it is open source)
but it installs with the “trial” addon’s which include DWG.

if it works: it seems that the full cost would be EUR 32.00.

not sure if it is the best solution, but it looks fairly good - at least you can see if it works first!
