libre office won't open

I cannot get Libre Office to open. I try opening with odt file and also with libre office exe file, nothing happens. The only way I can get it to work is to reboot the computer. Then it works ok for a time, then same thing happens.
I have been using Libre Office for several years and only recently have this problem.

If you are using Windows check in Task Manager when you are unable to open LO to see if there are any LO background processes running and kill them if there any. I have had this happen in the past and this worked. Sometimes this can happen if LO does not close down properly.

thank you, @peterwt. Your suggestion worked for me.

Running Ubuntu, but the principle worked for me too. Found open LO processes from previous version (5.2) running. Shut them down, and version 6.2 came up like a champ! Sorry I don’t have enough points (yet…) to upvote or I would.
Thanks!

Had similar problem, in my case the cause was a pending LibreOffice operation that was not completed. For example if opening an encrypted Writer document that requires a password, if there are other LibreOffice windows open, such a Calc spreadsheet, the password pop-up window opens in the background, associated with the spreadsheet window, which needs to be selected to find it.

There are likely other windows that may be waiting for user input, such as a print screen. If they are waiting for user input, one is unable to open any other document or instance of LibreOffice program, even if a different program (ie. if Calc is waiting for input, you can not open an instance of Writer.)

USUALLY SOMETHING OPEN IN THE BACKGROUND, DID NOT CLOSE DOWN CORRECTLY. WE READ THIS SOMEWHERE. SAVE YOUR FILES
THEN CLOSE DOWN THE COMPUTOR,
REOPEN IT AND IT SHOULD BE WORKING.
CLOSING DOWN CLOSES THE BACKGROUND ITEMS YOU CANNOT SEE. READ THIS SOMEWHERE,
WE KNOW NOTHING BUT IT WORKED FOR US!!!
