HELP! Is it possible to recover deleted document?

While editing I ‘deleted’ instead of ‘entering’. Please don’t tell me that the document is gone forever.

As soon as possible do the following:

Download Recuva (Windows only) or PhotoRec for Win, MacOS, Linux and other OSes (only one needed) and let it do an in-depth recovery of deleted files on your computer. You may get a file containing some or all of your data (or not). Do this as a first priority; other use of the computer may overwrite any existing but deleted files and prevent their recovery. There is no guarantee that you will recover anything useful.r work is small.

If you have deleted data from a document that hasn’t been saved, the likelihood of recovering your data is small.

Important notes: save and execute the recovery software outside the partition where the lost file was, and make sure you rescue the file elsewhere than the partition where it was. A deep scan would ensure the file is found, but even if you tell it the folder the file was in, the deep scan will scan the whole drive. Just in case you won’t be asked for Admin powers, right-click it.

Recuva is a good option, but TestDisk is cross-platform and last I heard it’s better than Recuva, if harder to use.

If the document is still open …

… keep clicking the Back arrow icon, or press Ctrl+z repeatedly - it undoes what you did so undoes the deletion.

If you deleted something from a file while you were editing it and then saved the file …

… follow the instructions in [Tutorial] How to recover corrupted, broken, lost or deleted files, and those with #####. It gives information about how data is handled, when and where it is saved, and detailed instructions on how to recover lost files
