Spell Checker Doesn't Work

The Spell Checker doesn’t work.
Version: Version: 5.1.6.2
Build ID: 1:5.1.6~rc2-0ubuntu1~xenial2

If I run it manually it says it’s checked everything but it isn’t seeing any spelling mistakes at all…
I’ve been through all the settings I can find to do with languages and dictionaries, but nothing I do makes it work at all…

H E L P !

I’m having exactly the same problem using Windows 7 SP1, 64-bit

Version: 5.2.6.2 (x64)
Build ID: a3100ed2409ebf1c212f5048fbe377c281438fdc
CPU Threads: 4; OS Version: Windows 6.1; UI Render: GL;
Locale: en-US (en_US); Calc: group

When I try to do any spell checking of existing documents, they open in LO Draw, not in LO Writer

There are two possible reasons for this problem: dictionaries are not installed or language text is set as “none”.

Check the status bar on the lower part of Writer’s window: on the middle of that bar you should see the language in use.

As you are on Linux you can install dictionaries through your package manager. How they are packaged depends on your distro, so check your distro’s documentation.

You can set a language either through paragraph or character styles or even direct formatting on the “Font” tab.
