citations with end table of references -- how?? [closed]

Citations in the text [1]. That is all I am trying to do .. hours spent now ..

Every reference I find says to begin by clicking on tools->Bibliography Database[2]. But that does nothing. I click, and it is just like I haven't clicked. People say, "join zotero" so I did, no change.

I would prefer the document to be stand alone. I'm not wanting to experience opening a doc to work on it, and connectivity issues to a database causing the doc to be broken.

no one on the IRC channel has any idea ... why is this so hard???

On the chapter 3 of Writer Guide there is explained how to use footnotes and endnotes.

The bibliographic database works with Java, so check if you have a Java runtime installed and that that runtime is selected on Tools → Options → LibreOffice → Advanced.
