Losing word document /runtime error

I have windows 97 and when I am typing a new document it lets me get about two paragraphs into it and then the whole thing is lost and it says unhandled runtime error. I have a 2004 Dell. Sometimes it says, “out of memory at line 32” or whatever.
I have several hundred registry errors that I haven’t been able to afford to fix online yet. How do I fix Word so I can use it?
