Go to

Insert (the insert option on the tool bar at the top of the window)

Special Character (there is an omega next to the special character).

There are two options from here. On the far right, second from the bottom is a degree symbol. On the bottom row, near the middle there is another one.

After clicking on which symbol you'd like, then click insert and there you go.

U+00BA is not a "degree" but a "MASCULINE ORDINAL INDICATOR", which seems to be needed in Spanish. Or similar wrong a superscript zero from U+2070. The "degree" might be available via keyboard too. On a German keyboard layout it is top-left.

The one character °F (here a really one character: ℉ ) is at U+2109, but that is only available in a few fonts, e.g. in "Arial Unicode MS" or in "Linux Libertine G".
