Can I recover a document from a temp. file?

Hi,

1st of all thank you for LibreOffice!

what happened is that i closed my macbook and for some reason libreoffice (4) was closed. an hour later when i opened my MB again. opening LO asked to recover (i had about 6 documents open) which i did. it recovered them to a much earlier stage and two or three weren’t recovered at all. i closed libreoffice again without saving the recovered documents. opened it back up and two of those that didn’t recover earlier did recover this time.

I searched for temp files and found some from around the time where i closed my macbook.
now. changing them to .odt made it possible to open, but nothing usable came out, same with drag n drop into LO… (lots of weird symbols and such)
did reboot my system.

- is it possible to recover a document from a temp. file?
can I make it a writer document again?

using osx 10.11.6

Thank you.

I do no know how it works on MacOS, but just try to drag-n-drop the file to the LO window. If it does not work, well, tough luck.

tried it, no succes. thank you for answering.
