Paragraph borders flush with text?

Is there a way in Writer to have a paragraph border that on the left and right is flush with the actual left and right edges of the text, rather than going all the way from margin to margin? In other words I want something for Borders that is the equivalent to the Character/Paragraph option available on the Background tab of Paragraph Style → Modify dialog. I tried using a single-cell table as a workaround, but that doesn’t work for me because the text is not truly centered in the cell, nor centered left-to-right but aligned to the bottom. Thanks for any ideas!

I do mean paragraph border (line drawn around all 4 sides of a paragraph). The top and bottom lines appear close to the text, but the left and right lines are at the margins.

that is the behavior that I do not want. I have a centered heading, with a border. The left and right borders are drawn at the left and right margins rather than next to the first and last characters of the headers.

Please let me ask some questions to better understand your question.

paragraph border - should this be a line drawn from top to bottom of the paragraph on the left side

or

do you want the text aligned on the left side but not on the right side?

Actually you can. Paragraph text span from left to right, from the left indent up to right indent. The borders are drawn at these paragraph indent positions.
