Desperate! Keeps overtyping

This problem has been increasing making it now impossible for me to type anything. Whenever I make changes or insert words in a text document, instead of creating a space as I type, it now overtypes the characters ahead, obliterating them. This is happening even when I leave the text document untouched to look at something else on my computer that is not LibreOffice such as reference material, when I return to the text page the blinking line is suddenly double thickness and then obliterates the characters ahead as I type. I have to keep saving, closing and reopening the document to it to stop, but now even that is not working. This problem is not happening with anything else including this posting and email etc.

I am using Windows 7 and have just updated to the latest version of Libre Office. I have also tried rebooting but nothing helps. I am now at the point of being unable to work! Please help!

Look at the status bar: do you have mode “Overwrite” activated?

Hit the INSERT key again to toggle

Thank you - I wondered where that was! That is exactly how it was behaving, however I did not have it activated. I think maybe that specific document was corrupted as I copied the text and put it in a new document and so far so good. A bug perhaps?

No. As @komma4 mentioned, the Insert key is used to toggle the mode. You just happened to hit it accidentally, instead of Home or PgUp maybe.
