Still Ctrl + arrow is fetches cell with ={} although it looks empty. Interesting enough pivot table recognizes ={} as zero and ="" as second (empty) whereas totally empty as the first (empty).

I use 4.2.3.3 on Linux x64 to edit 174,4 KiB size *.ods file. It takes 10 seconds to open. I followed your advice save in xlsx format and got 12 seconds on opening. I have an HP Mini with an Intel 2 core 1000 MHz processor, 2 GB RAM.

I asked about returning empty cell because I want to use Ctrl + arrow. Not for using formula. Formula do well with empty cells.

2014-05-07 16:16:49 +0200 asked a question how to get visible selection button in freeze column with data validation while horizontal sheet scrolling
  1. I froze the first column.
  2. I applied data validation based on cell range.
  3. Data selection button is shown right of the cell.
  4. When I scroll the sheet to right, the button is never appeared until I scroll back.
  5. How to show up the selection button while scrolling?
