2015-06-26 04:14:37 +0200 answered a question How do I change section names in a header -- without a page break?

To do that, you have to insert fields in your header.

First, be sure the paragraphs of your chapter titles and section names have a "Heading" style. The "fields" you will put as header will automatically recognize "Heading 1" (for main chapters), "Heading 2" (for 2nd level sections), "Heading 3" etc.

1- Format the header for your page style

  • Go to Format -> Page (or double-click the page style in status bar below)
  • Click the Header tab
  • Uncheck "Same content left-right"
  • OK

2- Set Field for chapter title

  • Go to a left-page and put the cursor in the header space

  • Go to Insert -> Fields -> More Fields (CTRL+F2)
  • In Type column, choose "Chapter"
  • In Format, choose the option you wish: "Chapter name" or "Chapter number and name"
  • Insert
  • You may let the Fields window opened

3- Set Field for section name

  • Put the cursor in the header space of a right-page
  • Go back to Fields window
  • In Type column, choose "Chapter"
  • In Format, choose the option you wish: "Chapter name" or "Chapter number and name"
  • Below, choose level of the section you wish to display (usually Level 2)
  • Close Fields window

Hope that will do what you want.

2015-06-26 02:16:56 +0200 commented answer How to add a footer different in last page

Thank You pierre-yves samyn for your detailed answer.

However, I'm looking to do this operation without a page break.

This part of your answer is what I was expecting:

The ability to manage different content of headers and footers for the first page is an exception to this principle.

2015-06-23 15:28:29 +0200 asked a question How to add a footer different in last page

Is it possible to add a different header-footer in the "last page" of a document or section in Writer. In the dialog box of page format, there is the option "first page different" in the header or footer tab. My request is for the same feature for last page.

My request is similar to issue 7697 At the moment, I'm using the solution given there: I insert a text box in the last page (but default footer is shown).

Using LO 4.4.

Improvement suggestion.

I was directed automatically to Spanish version of Ask site. It is poorly feed with only 200 questions. I can switch back to English questions/answers by changing the URL address ( But it should have an easier way to consult this site from one language to the other, like language list in the site's header.

2015-04-27 14:23:16 +0200 answered a question Guardar en xls o en ods?

Lo que generalmente se aconseja:

  • Siempre preferir el formato ODF (.ods, .odt, .odp). Incentivar tus colaboradores a utilizar LibreOffice u OpenOffice.
  • Sino van a utilizar software libre, utilizar los formatos de Microsoft (xls, doc, ppt) verificando los errores de compatibilidad después de guardar el archivo.

  • Si tus colaboradores solo necesitan leer un documento sin editar, utilizar PDF.

Fine. I understand the point. But it's not obvious for the common user: it's not the way most software updaters work.

Thank you for the detailed answer.

But more generally, I'm still aware for the future: how can I trust the updater to give the version I need? Without having to spend time on forums to learn about it...

2015-03-02 12:50:14 +0200 asked a question Why updater does not advise newest LibreOffice Still?

I have LibreOffice 4.2.8 and I prefer to use the LibreOffice Still.

However I realize the newest version of LibreOffice Still is now the version 4.3.6. The 4.2 branch is supposed to have reach the end of life. Why am I not advise of the new version by the updater?

Is it a bug? Is it a conscious decision from the Document Foundation?

(- A conservative user who doesn't want however to run an obsolete software)

2015-03-02 12:27:52 +0200 answered a question Super Recomendación!!! Staff

2014-06-05 12:34:00 +0200 answered a question How can I make the default AutoCorrect work? (ellipsis, em dash, arrows...)

Salut: pour la révision et l'autocorrection en français, il y a l'extension Grammalecte, module très intéressant de correction grammaticale pour le français.

For French grammar checker and autocorrection, you can use Grammalecte:

By the way, automatic ellipsis mark is a problem with LibreOffice. Writing both in French and Spanish, if I write 3 dots "..." AutoCorrect replaces it by a real ellipsis mark "…" ONLY if there is a space before. But if I put the dots after a word (which is the case most of the time) the AutoCorrect doesn't work.

If someone knows how to fix this without using extension, would be great to know.

2013-03-25 14:55:07 +0200 answered a question Average highest/lowest values

It's not exactly the same formula, because if two (or more) equal values share the third position, your formula compute both in the average. I don't want that.

Ex. If now I put those values : 60 | 75 | 75 | 80 | 85, searching the average of the highest 3. My formula still returns 80, yours returns 78,75.

2013-02-21 19:41:50 +0200 marked best answer Average highest/lowest values

In Calc, how can I average only the x highest values?

Ex. The following values: 60 | 75 | 80 | 85; the average of 3 highests is 80.

Currently I use: =AVERAGE(LARGE(B2:E2;1);LARGE(B2:E2;2);LARGE(B2:E2;3))

but if I have the 15 highests, is kind of tricky... Is there a simplest way?

With newest version of LibreOffice (3.6.3) and the latest Java update, I could get rid of that problem. Now Language Tool works fine!
