2013-03-06 14:59:29 +0100 answered a question Document Management

We use (and sell) Group-Office groupware which is web based. It sends the LibreOffice document to the local computer with Java - and after editing locally it automatically uploads it to the server.

You can use template documents, so your LibreOffice document will automatically be populated with data from contacts, projects etc.

It has file versioning, check in/out of documents and a very nice ACL system for permission control.

The community version is AGPL, but you will need the Professional version (paid) for the functionality above.

FreePlane (fork of FreeMind) seems to export up to 7 levels out of the box.

2012-11-05 19:48:07 +0100 answered a question Is it possible to open a document created in libreoffice in Word

Newer versions of Word can open ODT files.

Or you can use Writer to save your document to .doc or .docx and then open that in Word.

2012-11-05 19:45:42 +0100 asked a question Compatibility regressions and confidential documents

Several times in 3.6 (and 3.5) versions I have came across regressions where it is hard to reproduce the bug without sharing the original document that causes the bug in the first place.

Is there a way we could share problematic documents with the community - without them being available for all to see?

In this case I have received a .doc file that will not open in LO 3.6.3 (tested in Windows and Linux).

The file opens fine in Apache OpenOffice 3.4.1 and MS Office 2010....

2012-10-04 21:25:22 +0100 commented answer What's the best way to batch convert ODF to PDF on Windows?

Have you actually tried that, hyogapag? Because I can not get it to work with multiple files on Win7. Also, i think he will have to add the full path to soffice.exe.

2012-10-04 21:06:01 +0100 answered a question What's the best way to batch convert ODF to PDF on Windows?

On Linux this is very easy to do by using LibreOffice itself:

In a terminal simply go to your folder and type:

libreoffice --headless --convert-to pdf *.odt (and Enter)

This will convert all text documents to PDF. Repeat with .ods and .odp if needed.

I think it more complicated on Windows, so if this is a one time task perhaps you could start your computer with a Ubuntu Live CD and do it from Linux.

2012-10-04 18:23:27 +0100 commented question Libre office 3.6.4 Calc sorts column labels into data

@vsfoote, this bug is only in 3.6 series. In 3.5.4+ it works as expected.

2012-09-12 02:25:44 +0100 answered a question Libre office 3.6.4 Calc sorts column labels into data

I am pretty sure this is a bug.

Checking "Range contains column labels" makes it possible to use those labels in the drop down of which columns we want to sort by.

But there is no reason that the column label row should be sorted in with the regular rows.

2012-05-09 13:57:19 +0100 answered a question Why do writer documents open differently on different OS's?

One thing worth trying is to install Wine in Ubuntu. A side effect of this is that you will get Windows fonts (like Times New Roman) installed on your Ubuntu machine.

2012-03-20 10:49:26 +0100 commented question Problems with Opening and Saving a Document over a Network

I guess that most of these issues are related to the way your network server is set up in Ubuntu - and that this is not related to LibreOffice at all.

If you use gedit (text editor not related to LibreOffice) do you have the same issues with opening/saving files?

2012-03-18 12:05:22 +0100 answered a question Easier to apply background in Impress

You can do it like that today...

  1. Right click on the edge of a slide, or somewhere there isn't content

  2. In the context meny click Slide > Set background picture for slide

  3. Use the simple file chooser to selct an image you have saved.

(4. Select if you want that to be the background for the current slide, or all slides in your presentation).

Sorry if I am missing your question completely :)

2012-03-16 16:52:59 +0100 answered a question is there something like quickbooks in libre office?

LibreOffice is a general productivity suite with word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, drawing, database and math software. It is an excellent alternative to proprietary suites like Microsoft Office, as it is better in many ways and much more future proof.

A popular alternative to Quickbooks is GnuCash:

2012-03-16 16:25:29 +0100 answered a question Can I import a MS Excel file into Base on Linux?

Should be no problem.

In Base, use Connect to an existing database > Spreadsheet > Browse to your Excel file.

2012-03-16 16:11:00 +0100 answered a question Crop Pictures in Writer

You may find that the Crop function in LibreOffice is slightly disappointing, compared to competing productivity suites. I think it is the only function that has ever made me feel a bit embarrased when comparing it to Word...

When writing manuals I usually crop in a screenshot program and then insert into Writer. Shutter is a good one for Linux and Greenshot for Windows. But lately I have used ScreenPresso on Windows. It is not open source, but make very nice screen shots.

2012-03-14 10:01:13 +0100 answered a question Is it possible setup automatic update?

I'm sure the correct answer to the OP's question is :

No, it is not possible to set up automatic update. You can only have automatic checking and downloading.

If you use Linux LO will update automatically, though. Although it takes some time before you get each new version.

2012-03-14 09:36:41 +0100 answered a question comment in calc is the referencing the wrong cell

I think it is supposed to do it like that. It places the comment box a bit away from the cell, so that you can see both the cell and the comment at the same time.

Do you not see an arrow pointing from the comment box to the cell you want to comment?

Compare it to the comment function in Writer...

2012-03-10 17:11:58 +0100 commented answer Which MS Office file formats have better compatibility with LibreOffice?

Please note that Excel can not in any way handle .ods files coming from LibreOffice. By design Excel will deliberately destroy any .ods created by LO deleting all formulas, and replace them with their current value. The only .ods file Excel can work with are the ones created by Excel...

2012-03-09 01:05:35 +0100 commented question ms-office icons in stead of 'tango'-icons

If you want a "fresher" look you could try to switch to Oxygen or Crystal icons. On Ubuntu you will have to install Crystal icons (search for Crystal), on Windows you can just switch by using Tools > Options > View.
