2013-02-14 19:29:02 +0200 asked a question How to copy a page in Writer?

I have a page enclosed by manual page breaks. Now I want to copy this page as a whole, as it is possible in LO Draw or Impress for instance.

How is this possible in Writer?

Ok, maybe this wasn't clear enough:
I want to copy and paste the page in the same document (i.e. duplicate) or paste it into another writer document.
Currently I manually mark all the page content and hit copy & paste. But I find this to cumbersome, especially with the manually marking, so I thought there might be an easier way around.

2012-12-08 14:55:52 +0200 answered a question Excel and word files

In addition to qubits post:

You can look for a lock-file in the same directory as the xls-files. Lock-files are created by LO upon opening a document. When the user gets disconnected from the network or his LO isn't closed properly, these lock-files persist and give a false error message when trying to open the file.

The lock-files are hidden so, you may need to enable the view of hidden files in your file-explorer. The naming of the lock files is as follows:

  • .~lock."Name-of-XLS".xls#

whereby "Name-of-XLS" is the actual name of XLS-file (w/o the quotation marks). - When you find such files, just delete them and try opening the files again.

Another solution would be:

Open the files in LO (read-only), choose File - Save as ... and save them in the OpenDocumentFormat (ODF), which would be here: ODS for spreadsheets, ODT for textdocuments. When working with LO this is the recommended file-format (anyways).

Try abs{z}, it is in the right click menu of the input bar under functions -> the very first entry.

Edit: Or do you mean just the vertical bar? Did you tried "|"?

Did you tried printing the file or zooming in?

If I zoom in on your file everything looks fine to me, see also attached screenshot: image description Clipboard01.png

If that is not your problem, please explain further.

2012-12-05 01:48:13 +0200 answered a question upper limit to number of rows in Calc

Depends on the LO version you are using:

  • pre 3.3.3: limit is 65 536 rows
  • 3.3.3 and later: 1 048 576 rows (1M)

If this is not sufficient for you needs, you can use the Base module of LibreOffice to import csv-files with almost no row limit at all. With Base you can query and strip the data before you pass it to Calc for charts and such a like...

For a brief intro see here and/or open a new topic for further questions.
