2015-10-12 10:54:44 +0100 commented question slide show 2/3 covered with black overlay

Both computers running Fedora Linux - release 22 (kernel: 4.1.10-200 if that matters) also fully patched minutes ago. One is 32 bit, the other 64. I tried a NEW presentation and it worked fine. I cut my presentation which has a left background constant image down to one page and that too screws up. It is something about having a background that screws this up. I am reporting this as a bug.

Version: 4.4.5.2 - just upgraded minutes ago. Finished writing a slide show and went to view. When I go to look at it with the slide show set to manual, only the left third of the slide shows correctly. The other 2/3 of the screen is solid black with ONLY colored text showing up through the black. Tried on two computers and got the same result. This is a total panic situation, the slide show is un-presentable. Yes, I tried all sorts of settings for the show, all resulted in the same.

2014-04-22 13:47:12 +0100 answered a question Can I have pagination related to each column

Good answer. But for the record, your 1/2 sheet is a 1/4 sheet. I want 8.5x5.5 ( the size of most cook books and small binders). You halved both dimensions to get 1/4. :=]

FINAL resolution: redo document in single column portrait mode with fonts about 3/2 bigger and FAKE page size of 13 x 8.5; print using brochure mode giving a reduced size - 2up - comes out with footer pagination right. First page of print will waste left side.

2014-04-22 13:40:25 +0100 answered a question How can I number columns (like page number)?

Thanks Peter et al. I can easily see that reducing the "paper size" will work. I will have to experiment on how to get 2 "pages" to print on one. Bottom line, reducing the paper size works but printing it 2 up does not. The two pages are reduced in size and a huge left margin remains. BUMMER. It also thinks the paper is size A-2 at printing which is NOT what I put in and shows for the real paper size (A2 is a little larger in both h + w).

I actually like the variable solution better, so I will try that first. Ah - variables work only on the page - all pages after 1 are marked 1 and 2. - So this does not work. BUMMER.

FINAL resolution: redo document in single column portrait mode with fonts about 3/2 bigger and FAKE page size of 13 x 8.5; print using brochure mode giving a reduced size - 2up - comes out with footer pagination right. This will waste the left half of the first sheet (page 1 will be on right). Thanks to the person who suggested that I reduce the paper size and then could use correct fonts. After doing this, I kind of liked the larger fonts for editing (yes I could have just changed the view size - it would have been easier). But after an hour of changing many documents, it is not worth going back and re-doing it all again.

2014-04-22 13:33:53 +0100 answered a question how to reset user default document to NOT be in econo mode

This all started with the driver having problems when I upgraded to Fedora 10. I was getting "Error" printouts when I printed; I ran a linux command to "fix" the driver; and since then I have had gray scale. I just figured out (with a lot of clues) how to turn the papers individually into NOT econo mode. But it is definitely libre office not the driver now. I can reset EACH document to print right, but if I create a new document, it has econo mode set. So I need to reset the document once and save. I would like to turn this off on a "user" basis so new documents don't start wrong. If no one knows how, I will just have to reinstall Fedora eventually or print as someone else. For the record, I did an extended serach through ~/.config/libreoffice/4 ... and could not find any settings that I could find to change. I think this NEW economode option appeared for me after I tried "config2100" (the Linux tool - freeware) to fix this problem. The ONLY thing that works is individually changing each new document to NOT have save-toner mode on (or printing as someone else).

2014-04-21 15:58:36 +0100 asked a question How can I number columns (like page number)?

Using writer, we have composed a personal favorites cook book. The actual pages go in a small format page (8.5 high by 5.5 wide), so we cut the landscape style paper in half and use two columns.

It would be super to be able to auto-number the pages. Right now, I construct a text block at the bottom of each page in the footer (two per page) and hand number the pages. Of course, these text frames have a habit of moving on their own and the hand numbering is kind of archaic.

Does anyone have a clever way to mark page numbers on a page where the page is actually the column, so page 2 contains pages 3 and 4.

2014-04-21 15:52:59 +0100 asked a question how to reset user default document to NOT be in econo mode

My printer (HP2100) evidentaly has an economy mode where it prints things in grayscale not black to save ink.

I use Linux and have two machines (self and wife); we can both sign on to either machine. For some reason, my username on my machine AND ONLY that one of the four possibilities has been set to make the default mode for all documents use economy mode. In order to reset it, I must FOR EACH DOCUMENT choose file -> printer settings -> take default printer - HP2100 -> properties -> device -> econo mode then reset from "Save Toner" to the normal default of "Printer's Current Setting"

This mode ONLY appears for me on my computer (else there are two modes here, not three :: for all three other "user" settings).

Can anyone tell me how to reset this mode at the USER level so I don't have to reset it for each an every paper???

(I tried deleting the ~/.config/libreoffice/4 directory to no avail).

2012-11-12 00:22:08 +0100 asked a question Can I have pagination related to each column

I am working on a cook book. The end product uses a small notebook with each physical page (landscape style) cut in half to make each sheet of paper into TWO pages.

I have to manually number the columns now (1,2 first page; 3,4 second page ...)
