One question: did your OS hangs as well while draging-droping a tiny image (1KB or less)? Sorry, I can't reproduce this problem on LO (not Windows but Ubuntu 12.04 LTS). Merely I can point out, that dragging image while holding Ctrl+Shift creates a link to an image and didn't embeds it into document (Writer Guide, mentioned in the first answer).

Heading of this question is misleading. The issue is about not showing zero values as formula results, no matter you put it in the same sheet or in another.

An office suite is not intended for such a task. I would suggest you to go Scribus[1] way – it is an advanced desktop publishing software compatible with LibreOffice. Although it's not perfect but I'm happy with it. Using Scribus during couple of years I created few publications largest of them has 100 pages with lot of images. In case of slow performance it has an option temporary to switch off certain types of layout elements.

This feature is called "Direct cursor". You can enable it using menu: Tools>Options>LibreOfficeWriter>Formatting Aids. There is a choice of four different variants of this feature. Please read further about "Direct cursor" here - https://help.libreoffice.org/Writer/Using_the_Direct_Cursor

2013-04-15 08:22:37 +0200 answered a question Writer: Infinite Undo History

Let's compare comparable – MS Office and LibreOffice. MS Office stores 100 undo steps in memory. Increasing this value leads to extended use of random access memory (RAM) and possibly virtual memory. This slows down responsiveness of an application. LibreOffice allows you undo 100 steps by default. You can increase this value using main menu Tools>Options>LibreOffice>Memory>Number of steps. Max value is 1.000 (one thousand).
