export from writer to PDF security warning

I am creating a summary sheet in writer with hyperlinks to local files on flash drive
I understand this might be acrobat security setting issue but figured I would ask.

I recieve two warnings in acrobat when the link in the pdf is clicked.

Each time it warns about trustings and do I still want to click. There is a check box to “due this for all pfs” which I check.
Then a second box pops up asking if I want to open the file. THEN it goes to the file.

This does not happen if the file is as a odt

This is for a prosecutor. So I do not need them having to click twice for 20 difert files.
. Acrobat is NOT remembers the check box and will ask eith EACH and EVERY hyperlink.

I would keep it as .odt but can any computer open it? if you do not have LibreOffice can windows 10 open and have the links work?
That is why I wanted it exported as PDF. But having the security warnings happen twice for each file is going to turn them off and mayb ethink I am tyring to give them a virus if their security settings are the same
I never touched mine so assume these are default adobe acrobat settings.

I am fine with saving it in whatever format will be the most popular for other computers to view on the flash drive.

If you expect any decent answer, edit your question (don’t use an answer for additional information) to tell OS name, LO version and copy the exact message wording.

Any computer can open .odt files provided 1) LO is installed or 2) M$ Word is installed.

Operating systems don’t open files, but applications. And if there is no application on Windows 10 aware of how to open a file, then you can’t open the file. This applies to all file types, regardless of being created by LibreOffice or any other application (You even cannot open PDF on Windows 10, if there is no application to support this type of files - this is why you have Acrobat or MS Edge).

I guess my point/question is what is most universal on most PC?
I think one suggestion was to save the file as a PDF because they felt more machines would have a reader for PDF already installed…

However, I don’t understand why Adobe Acrobat is not saving the choice to allow it to be opened without the two pop-ups.

I don’t need the person viewing to deal with two warnings for each and every link… I’m also not sure how comfortable they would having to go into acrobat and turn off any safety protocols.

I’m wondering if there is a better format if I want to make it easy that they read a summary and click on the link to open media on their machine?
Is saving as html better?

HTML is certainly worse than your other options because to be read “comfortably” they need much more structuring. If you save as a single HTML, you get a single very long “screen” without the notion of traditional pages. HTML is primarily intended for Web servers. If you don’t run a Web server, don’t bother yourself with HTML, all the more because not all Writer features translate easily into HTML.

See the security settings of Acrobat Reader which allows to define what they call “Privileged Locations” - see adobe_reader_reference.pdf - page 29. Overall this got nothing to do with LibreOffice but with security settings of the application to be used to view the file. And from my point of view: PDF is the format to be chosen when it comes to exchange data across different operating systems, no need of modifying content and long term reliability. If you don’t want to bother other people related to their respective security setting, then re-think to embed what now is stored external to your documents.

How do I embed ?
Is a file in a folder on the same usb drive still considered “external”.

I’m just looking for the best way not to add confusion and warnings that will most likely concern .
If it was only one time and it actually did what it said it was going to do with the checkbox, then I wouldn’t be as concerned period but the fact that they’re going to have to do that every time is what I’m trying to avoid.

Seems like I wasn’t the only one who want to do something like this.

I’ll be looking into their solutions however, this will only fix it for me not for others. It doesn’t seem like they figured out why the checkbox gets ignored

No doubt about that. But understand that there is no way to control by means of LibreOffice the security settings of another application on another user system. And in that sense you question is totally off-topic here. You just can’t control that. You even can’t control whether your counterpart can open any file due to his (unknown) security settings.

From a documents perspective - of course; they are not part of the document.
