I think I hate Libre, is there a tutorial

I am in the midst of trying to set up to write my book; I cannot see how to do subscripts, superscripts, centering, and page numbering, and, I cannot get my computer to talk to the printer…feel Libre may be too smart for me.

As is the case on most Q&A sites and help forums, please don’t post duplicates, and try to have distinct issues/questions in separate posts. It will help us help you better, and leave better documentation for future readers. It also helps to include your platform/version info, especially for printing issues. Thanks!

Like anything new, you have to give it a try and learn about the different features and where they are located. When you do have questions, this is an excellent forum to get help as there are lots of very experienced users from around the world that volunteer their time to help.

For sub/superscripts, they are found under the Format menu, Character, and the Position Tab. You can also customize the Formatting Tool Bar to add sub/superscripting quick buttons.

Centering is found on the formatting bar by default. Make sure it is visible…View Menu, Toolbars, Formatting (if it has a check mark, then it is already on and should be visible). The left align, centre, right align, full justification buttons are the standard icons found on most software programs.

Page Numbering: add a Header/Footer then insert fields, page number.

If you didn’t already, download and install the help file such that when you press F1, you’ll get a detailed help menu. Plus you will have downloaded the LibreOffice guide for at least the writer program.

As for the printer issue, printing from LibreOffice should automatically occur. Can you print from other software programs? For more help on this, you will need to include your Operating System version.

If you have other Word Processing software with which you are more familiar, you may want to stick with it as you start writing your book until you have a better handle on LibreOffice. When using LO, be sure to save in the native format (ODT) and not other formats such as .DOC or DOCX. Be sure to back up regularily, as in daily or after each writing session (not just with LO but any word processing program).

When you have questions that you can’t resolve from the help menu or documentation, search the Ask Lirbeoffice database for solutions. Failing that, ask questions.
