I want to copy text from word but it copies as pdf not as text.

I’m on a Macbook Air 2015. I want to copy text from a Word 2019 document to LibreOffice Writer. It gets pasted as an image in pdf format. I found a way out. I first copy the text to Evernote and then copy and paste from evernote to libreoffice. that works but it’s cumbersome. Is there any other way?

Edit your question (here answers are reserved for solutions) to better describe your environment (OS, LO version, source document and its format) and your initial procedure.

Also, you tagged common, meaning you target Writer, Calc, Impress and Draw as paste destination. Is this your intent? If not, retag with the name of the application into which you paste (writer, calc, impressordraw`). The solution may be different for each application.

Open your Word file directly in LibreOffice.

In which application do you open your Word document to select and copy some text?

As @Hrbrgr wrote, LO can read Word documents. Not 100% perfect but in 99% of cases you get what you want.

Reply to @Hrbrgr: I can and do open Word files directly in LO. But sometimes my Word files are open in other windows in the Word application and I need to copy a little text from that document to LO Writer. That’s when it gets pasted as a box. I cannot copy the text and edit it in the LO Writer.

We can’t guess what’s going on from your description. Edit your question to attach a faulty .odt file where copied text is an “image”. Make the file as short as possible. The attach tool is the paperclip icon in the edition toolbar. Note you can’t attach to a comment.
