Is there somewhere with LO writer (format image perhaps?) that will allow me to change a colour image into B&W? I know I could alter my printer properties, but if I could find some way to change the image & save it, then I wouldn't need to access the printer properties every time I print the document.

Hi Regina thanks for your very clear response and attached images. Once I found the correct tool, it was a piece of cake to edit the image.

2017-01-09 12:17:34 +0200 ha posto una domanda LO link to dictionaries not working

I have LO 5.1.4.2 for Ubuntu, but running in Linux Mint Cinnamon 18.1 I have an EN-US dictionary installed, but want EN-GB. When I click on the LO link in Spelling>Options to get more dictionaries online, it goes to a 404 page. Trying searching the website does help for me as it mentions "extensions for EN-GB", but I just don't know if that's what I want? I thought it would just be a dictionary, not an extension? I'm worried I might install the wrong thing. Can someone provide a link to find what I need please?

Thanks again for your help with this. I’ve just about got everything back to how it was originally.

In “Set your default programs”, I definitely shouldn’t click “Set this program as default” for Libre Office, because I now know that doing that makes it open absolutely all files types it possibly can, removing control from all the other programs that were associated with it.

Thanks for the reply. I’m struggling in Control Panel. Running Windows 7 64bit.

In Control Panel I opted for “Set Your Default Programs”, then selected LO 5.2, and “Choose Defaults For This Program”. It displays file extensions on the left, then “Description” and “Current Default” on the right.

However, I cannot uncheck any of them, they’re all greyed out. I can select a particular complete line, but still not the extension checkbox. Have I followed the instruction incorrectly?

2016-12-23 05:38:40 +0200 ha posto una domanda My error has got LO opening too many file types

I made a mistake in my Windows Control Panel, it was either Default Programs, or Associate a type of file with a program. I remember clicking on Libre office, and it asked me if I wanted to associate all files with it.

I thought it would only be the open document files & word files, excel files, etc. Mistake! Now it seems there are dozens that open with LO. For example, .jpg .bmp .cdr, to name just a few.

I thought if I uninstalled LO, they would go back to the original defaults, then could re-install LO. When I re-installed LO however, it re-took control of all those files again.

How can I get Windows to use the programs it was using before, then stop LO taking them all over again when I re-install it? It’s driving me crazy, even though it’s a mistake of my own making.

OK, I don't have Word, so I wouldn't know about that. Thanks for your help, at least I'm aware what is causing this issue, and it doesn't seem too important, so I can ignore it for now.

2016-12-21 13:33:54 +0200 ha commentato una risposta odd font display

I've just toggled that control on & off. in the word doc. It shows end of line stuff, paras, etc., then hides them. but it doesn't affect the soft-hyphens.

2016-12-21 13:21:51 +0200 ha commentato una risposta odd font display

I think you're correct about the soft hyphen. Pasting it into Notepad does indeed show it as a hyphen. Any idea why it appears in LO Writer though? Opening the word file in Open Office doesn't get it to show up.

I'm not sure how to describe the issue. The screenshot above from LO Writer (v5.1.6.2) shows a .docx document. Some characters are highlighted in grey. They seem to have a small dash after them, causing the highlighting? I'm told this doesn't appear in the word file. It dosen't seem to do it with all .docx files, just some from certain (unknown) sources. If further details are needed, please ask. Sorry if a .jpg doesn't give the detail required.

Whoa! Thanks for that suggestion. I've got past the error now and it's offering me options to design a table. I had absolutely no idea Base wouldn't work straight off, I also had no idea about Java, JRE, JDK, or what they are. I just followed your clear instructions (plus your additional bit about selecting the correct Java option) I've been using LO for a few years already, but not Base. It's always easy when someone else knows where you're going wrong! Thanks again.

Thanks for the replies. I don't want to sound ungrateful for something that's free, but from what has been said it seems there's a lack of clear explanation from LO about something that's quite involved, needed to get Base working.

Well I installed the 32 bit option first, but it made no difference. So then added the 64 bit option next, still wouldn't run - still the same error message. I rebooted, just in case, still no luck. Files d/l and run: jdk-8u102-windows-i586.exe, jdk-8u102-windows-x64.exe

Any suggestions of what to do next? Btw, yes, I'm running windows 7 64 bit, forgot to say that.

2016-09-18 11:10:31 +0200 ha posto una domanda "No Java installation could be found" error

I have found other posts about this. I don't really understand the ins and outs of this though. I'm using LO Base 5.1.5 64 bit. Trying to learn about using this database for the first time, but not doing very well.

I'm guessing that "JRE" is what Java describe as "Java", or is there some other type of Java I need? Someone said by installing 32 bit & 64 bit would solve the problem? I've tried that, but I still see that same error.

The error details are: "SQL Status: HY000 No Java installation could be found. Please check your installation."
