I reported a problem with the profile data. I sent a message using the form in "Give feedback" I have no idea if it was sent (shouldn't I receive a copy of the sent message at my email?) but I haven't received an answer. Shouldn't there be an email contact?

My answer is outdated since all wizards have been migrated to Python. Un-marking as correct and promoting the current correct answer.

2015-02-06 13:05:22 +0200 ha modificato una domanda Is it possible to open Writer directly on Mac OS X?

Is it possible to open Writer directly (on Mac OS X)? It's not just about the extra step to open Writer from Start Center, which is a minor annoyance, but also that when Writer does open, the screen size/configuration is set to match that of Start Center, and then it requires some fussing around with my mouse to get the windows set in a usable way (I use Navagator which, when opening a blank document, ends up blocking the left half of the Writer window).

Thanks, Brett

@CraigK, the updated version number is manually modified in some server (it's beyond my understanding why this isn't done by a script...) so some delay is normal (depending on human availability).

2014-10-21 16:20:02 +0200 ha risposto a una domanda how to delete left column + content from a document?

Assuming that when you mention your name is on a column that you are referring to a table with two columns, just click on any cell on the first column, then click on the menu Table, Delete, Columns.

The first column should be deleted and the second should expand to the page width.

2014-10-21 12:14:15 +0200 ha risposto a una domanda VLOOKUP by columns

Unfortunately Calc does not allow a full column/row to be used in a formula (like in Excel). This is a limitation in Calc.

However the solution for your particular problem is simple: just "lock" the first cell in the range by adding a $ dollar sign

(adding a $ to the last cell also locks the end of the block although in your case it might be unnecessary)

This method has been the same since Lotus 123 (back in 1983) for referring to a fixed range.

2014-09-04 20:36:00 +0200 ha risposto a una domanda How to define a character style changing just one component of style?

You are mixing Paragraph Styles (which is what you select on the drop box to the left of the font) with Character Styles which you can select and modify from the Styles and Formatting toolbar (F11 or menu Format > Styles and Formatting) or from the Styles and Formatting Sidebar (menu View > Sidebar and then click on the second vertical icon on the Right edge). On the Sidebar, below the words Styles and Formatting, there is a row of small icons. The first one is the Paragraph Styles (which you have been using) and the second (the low case A) is the Character Styles.

2014-08-31 21:56:20 +0200 ha risposto a una domanda Will LibreOffice run like Office 2010?

First of all it is not true that Windows Vista is not compatible with Office 2010 (in fact you can even install it on Windows XP SP3).

However you are better served for simple tasks such as writing texts with LibreOffice (or any other Open Source office suite). Not because it is free (as free beer) but because you are able to install as many language dictionaries as you need for no extra charge.

Additionally your files are free to be opened by anyone because they don't have to buy the same version of Office to make sure the file opens correctly. Therefore using this Office suite and sharing files in the Open Document Format will not only guarantee your freedom but will also extend it to those who receive them :)

Hope this answers your question!

2014-08-31 15:50:43 +0200 ha risposto a una domanda Why is Calc v4.2 performance worse than v4.1 for my files?

Can you try version (the final version in the 4.1 branch)? In my experience, under Windows this version is the best performer (I removed LibreOffice in Ubuntu so I have no idea if the same applies under Linux). I also see some very slow scrolling using 4.2 and 4.3 releases, especially if the document has images.

2014-08-31 09:58:10 +0200 ha risposto a una domanda Open multiple images and save them as one ODF or PDF file

This feature exists in LibreOffice since the 4.1 branch. It is not included in Writer. A sequence of images makes more sense in a presentation. So this is included in Impress.

Open Impress, click on menu Insert > Image > Photo Album, select all the images you want from as many folders as you wish. Re-order them (manually) if they are not in the order you wanted. Choose how many images you want per slide and click on Insert Slides.

You can save the presentation to make modifications later or simply go to File > Export as PDF

@Muffin Top, I can't find it either... Go to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bu... with the same login (the other link is just an attempt at a friendlier UI for the bug tracker) and set "Severity:" to "enhancement" (last item on the list)

2014-08-20 13:05:22 +0200 ha risposto a una domanda How do you set the default template in LibreOffice Draw Version

Two ways

A. LibreOffice is not in use

  1. Open LibreOffice
  2. Click on Templates (second item on the green list on the left)
  3. Click on Presentations Tab
  4. Import the template you wish to set as default
  5. Click on the template and click on the "Set as default" button

B. LibreOffice is already open in Impress (or any other application)

  1. Use menu File > Templates
  2. Click on Presentations Tab
  3. Import the template you wish to set as default
  4. Click on the template and click on the "Set as default" button
2014-08-20 12:35:44 +0200 ha risposto a una domanda How do you search this libre office site

Just click on the "search or ask your question" white box and type the keywords you are looking for. Some already existing questions will start to show on the drop list. You can click on one of those items or press the Enter key to show all the results of the search.

HINT TO SITE MANAGERS: Maybe a click-able "magnify glass" icon should be added (as in most search boxes) to the right of the input box?

2014-08-20 11:48:48 +0200 ha risposto a una domanda Can you highlight any chosen content inside a cell in Calc?

No, you can't change the background of a selected part of the cell content. You can only change the background color of the whole cell.

This is not a Calc (only) limitation. To my knowledge you can't do that on any spreadsheet software. You could suggest to add that to Calc as a Feature Request at https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/...

2014-08-19 13:57:52 +0200 ha commentato una risposta Why does EXACT function does not show expected result?

@Lupp, his answer does not apply to the question. Your answer probably does. We have to wait for feedback and/or a sample file from Johnny (aka ROSt52) @karolus, can you explain how Formatting can affect comparing two TEXT strings? You explanation is lucid, it just doesn't apply to this problem.

2014-08-19 12:53:09 +0200 ha commentato una risposta Why does EXACT function does not show expected result?

Your answer does not make any sense. Please re-read the question. Cell C3 and D3 contain TEXT. The EXACT function is comparing two TEXT strings.

2014-08-19 11:52:29 +0200 ha risposto a una domanda Why does EXACT function does not show expected result?

That is odd. Just tested on LO 4.2.5 and 4.3.0 and I also get FALSE. Can you share a file with the error?

If you type =C3=D3 you should get the same result as EXACT. Do you get a different result?

2014-08-14 10:01:08 +0200 ha commentato una risposta Calc will not perform calculations [after import]

@boxofrox and @Lupp: i just realized that Excel does the same. This means that even if you Format the cell back to Number the spreadsheet will not re-read the contents so it doesn't "realize" that it is a formula. However pasting a formula on that cell works. So this is not really a bug but something that could be improved... What is worrying is that importing an xlsx file should NOT cause this problem...

2014-08-11 10:07:18 +0200 ha risposto a una domanda Trying to subtract two cells with Date & Time input together

You can not simply change the format of the cell to provide the number of days.

What ANY spreadsheet does is refer dates to a Zero time (in the case of Calc the default is 30-12-1899 00:00:00), so when you subtract two dates, you get the remainder which can be displayed as hours. However it is still a fraction (in your case 0,1895833334) of a day (24h = 1 unit) which if formatted back to Date Time would be 30-12-1899 04:33:00 and therefore the 30 that you get.

What you need to do is create a formula to get the Integer part and show it as days and the fractional part and show as hours.
Example =TRUNC(B1-A1)&"D "&TEXT((B1-A1)-TRUNC(B1-A1);"HH:MM")
