2018-09-28 11:00:20 +0200 ベストアンサーマーク How to print serial numbers (auto-incrementing values) on text documents?

I want to print 500 copies of a document and I want to serial number each individual printed page.

The document itself will not be edited. I need an automatic way to change each printed copy. The serial numbers will still start with number 1000 and end with 1499 in this example. The serial number needs to be printed in the header.

It appears to be a theme problem. Please see a work-around in this thread: KDE + Libre Office Fresh = horrendous performance problems / Applications & Desktop Environments / Arch Linux Forums https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.p...

2016-08-30 03:59:38 +0200 質問をする Libre Office Fresh too slow to use

I'm running Arch with KDE (Plasma 5) and Libre Office Fresh. Of course Arch has very recent versions of all packages. I'm showing the following version information:

Version: 5.2.0.4 Build ID: 5.2.0-4 CPU Threads: 8; OS Version: Linux 4.7; UI Render: default; Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8)

Calc is so slow that it is not even useable. I want to know if anyone else is seeing severe performance problems with Calc on KDE. I'm seeing it on two different Arch installations, both of which are running on very fast modern workstation hardware (e.g., Core i7 machines with fast SSD, plenty of fast RAM, etc.) Compared to a Kubuntu 16.04 installation running standard Libre Office, the Arch machines are literally 1000 times slower.

Should I uninstall Fresh and try Libre Office Still? Or should I go through some troubleshooting steps with Fresh? All options (settings) are default at this point.

I just noticed that under Java Options I have "use a java runtime environment" checked, but my system does not have a JRE installed. What is the best fix? Uncheck that or install Java (otherwise not needed)? I

Is it possible that the default settings could be resulting in such horrible performance? Or do I need to go to LO Still? Thanks for any suggestions.

2016-03-19 22:53:58 +0200 ベストアンサーマーク Printer Options: Paper Size, Orientation Are Grayed Out

Until recently I had the option to change paper size and orientation in the LibreOffice Print Dialog > General Tab, Properties Button. Now those options are disabled. And this is true for all 3 of my printers. It is also true on multiple computers.

image description

In the last few days I have been trying to solve some (other) printing challenges. Based on various support suggestions, I have upgraded a number things. For example, I recently upgraded to LO 5.0. I am not sure when I lost the ability to set these two options.

I am running Kubuntu (12.04 on one computer, 14.04 on the other). My printers are HP X551dw and HP 8630. Driver is HPLIP 3.15.9 (latest as of today). All operating system updates are current as of today.

"It seems to me you need more than a spreadsheet approach; you need a database backend with a spreadsheet frontend." -- Yes, that sounds like what I need. Can you point me to some tutorials for that? I studied some SQL in school, but I have no real-world experience with databases and I don't know where to start.

2015-12-06 23:32:50 +0200 質問をする Combine multiple sheets into one master sheet

My question is similar to this one, but has additional requirements not addressed there:

[Calc] How to combine multiple tables, in different sheets, into a new one? - Ask LibreOffice https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/questi...

In one file I will many sheets. I will have one main sheet that summarizes and presents all the data from the other sheets. The other sheets will be raw data. I will not organize or format this data. And I cannot change the structure (such as moving or adding columns). Each of these other sheets will have the same structure (same columns).

However, in my main sheet, I need to be able to aggregate all the data as well as rearrange it. I need the columns in a different order. I need to sort the data. I need additional columns, etc.

To update my data I will need to be able to simply paste new data into the other sheets. The column structure in the other sheets will always be the same. There will be an arbitrary number of rows.

The solution needs to be robust in that the main sheet will continue to function as expected even when I paste new data into the other sheets. And I will continue to enhance the main sheet, so I need to be able to move columns and do other data manipulation operations exactly as I would on any normal sheet.

All my formatting, sorting and column rearranging will be limited to the main sheet.

2015-11-16 08:22:51 +0200 質問をする A document with alternative versions of subsections

I want to build a document that contains alternative versions of specific subsections. For example, say I have many versions of the 2nd paragraph of the document, while the first and 3rd paragraphs are fixed (static). Is it possible to have a "dynamic" document like this? (It reminds me of the way CMS-based website generate pages.)

Right now I have multiple versions of my document where (for example) only paragraph 2 differs. To edit the first paragraph I have to open each of the multiple documents. That's not efficient. My plan is to be able to maintain one document that contains all the static text as well as each version of the sections that are variable.

If Writer supports something like this, can I open the document, select/activate which 2nd paragraph I want, edit other parts of the document, save it and then print it? Next time I work on it, I might pick an another alternative version of paragraph 2, but any edits I saved to paragraph 1 or 3 would remain no matter which version of paragraph 2 is "active".

The variable subsections could be a few words long or as much as a full paragraph (maybe even multiple paragraphs).

Formatting is important. The swapping of sections in and out must maintain all the formatting applied to the section.

I can image this type of feature might be widely used in creating legal documents, but I do not know what the feature might be called (or if it even exists in Writer).

Thanks for any suggestions.

2015-10-25 02:35:46 +0200 質問をする LibreOffice Calc Pre Employment Testing

I am preparing to hire a person for a position that requires versatile, flexible and solid spreadsheet skills. We use LO exclusively. There are many pre-employment spreadsheet tests specific to MS Excel. But many of the questions in those tests deal with Excel-specific features (such as the ribbon) that are not relevant to LO. Also many of the tests focus on trivial things like changing the cell color.

What would be be the best approach to pre-employment testing for LO Calc? I am mainly interested in testing a person's competency with functions / formulas. I want to test whether a person can create spreadsheets to solve a specific problem and is able to draw upon knowledge of a wide variety of functions to accomplish the task.

Of the free tests I have found online (with minimal searching) this is the one I like the best so far:

Free Excel Tests Of Your Knowledge
http: //www.accessanalytic.c0m.au/Free-Financial-Excel.html?testname=Advanced%20Excel#exceltest

Does anyone know of something similar but longer (more questions)?

I'm willing to pay for this testing.

2015-10-22 23:06:09 +0200 ベストアンサーマーク Does LIbre Office 5 have lots of bugs on Ubuntu Linux?

I read that "There are masses of problems being reported with the combo of LO-5 & win-10." I upgraded to Libre Office 5.0.1 on Kubuntu 12.04 and 14.04. Suddenly there seems to be many problems. LO crashes quite often when it used to be rock solid.

So, is it also true that there are masses of problems with LO on Linux?

Here's one example I've experienced a lot: if I have done anything with Mail Merge, when I close one open document, LO crashes and all open documents are immediately closed. Recovery doesn't always work.

Another example is font display. Documents in Writer display very poorly now, with fonts looking improper. This never happened previously.

There are many other instances of crashing that I have not taken the time to reproduce carefully. The situation is that LO crashes a lot whereas it never crashed previously.

Many features don't work well, but these are new features to me, so I don't know if these are new bugs, old bugs or things I just haven't figured out yet.

I've been using LO (and OO) for about 8 years. But if Libre Office 5.0.x was my first exposure to LO, I don't think I would ever come back.

2015-10-20 07:18:42 +0200 コメント付き回答 Mail Merge changes page orientation after printing first page

I updated my question. It is not practical to do this in two steps, whether printing to file then printing to printer, or printing to PDF and then printing the PDF. We have to do this Mail Merge multiple times every day. It is done by employees.

2015-10-20 07:14:12 +0200 編集された質問 Mail Merge changes page orientation after printing first page

I want to print serial numbers from a LO Calc spreadsheet onto half-sheet labels (2 labels per 8.5 x 11 sheet). Each label is 5.5" x 8.5".

After not finding a template for my Avery 5126 labels, I am using the LO Avery letter size 5315 (Laser Note Cards) template. It is specified as 5.5" x 8.5" (2 x 1) in LO. That's exactly what I need (see note below).

I think I have done all the steps correctly. The first sheet is printed correctly. However, all following sheets change orientation (to portrait) and what is printed on the page is scaled differently (consequently I cannot read all the text for the 2nd document on each sheet so it is hard to tell if my database info is printing correctly).

I do not know whether I am making a mistake or I have encountered a bug. I'm relatively new to LO Mail Merge. Very confusing...

I am running LO 5.0.1 on Kubuntu 12.04 and 14.04. I am using HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP) version 3.15.9 (which was the most current version about a month ago).

UPDATE: This issue does not happen if I print to file. So a workaround may be to do the Mail Merge and print to a single file, then print that file to the printer. This does indeed work. But I do not feel it is practical. I can only imagine all the problems my employees will have if I recommend this method. The support costs would be tremendous.

Yes, I am are using the method given by @Regina at the link you used. I'm not sure if you have given a solution in your answer. If so, it isn't apparent to me. And, no, even running the document through the printer a second time does not work because the same serial number is repeated on both pages.
