I cannot get LibreOffice to install on my Windows 8

My computer is not recognizing it as a windows installer and won’t even open the installer. (version 4.2.5)

Please read: What information should I include in a question in addition to OS and LibreOffice version? - #4 by ROSt53

What is your question?

Check the extension of your installer file, It should be .MSI. Sometimes IE changes it to .MAN. If this is the case just rename it to .MSI and you should be good

How about trying LO Version 4.3?

Good luck!

Like @Indian-Art said, but I’d recommend even newer, the 4.3.1 RC1 at http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/?version=4.3.1 cuz of the fixes available right now; Linux distros don’t use the pages as a Linux Admin should know.

I don’t use LO much, not even weekly, but the little I do I don’t see any reasons why RC versions wouldn’t be good idea for everyone, even less why use the ‘Stable’ versions which are always old and old means more bugs in LO’s case. However, be sure to check back at http://www.libreoffice.org/download/pre-releases/ before they release 4.3.1 for final time; they usually release RC2 and later release a bit-for-bit clone as the final. RC versions higher than 2 are fairly uncommon.

If you happen to get to use LO on Ubuntu Linux, https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/ppa, the PPA I always add to the repos, won’t release the final version if the prior RC is no different from the final.

@rautamiekka - I don’t really agree with your statement that the old (stable, still) versions means less bugs. My understanding is that from version x.y.z ; z>0 no new features are added and more bugs are removed thereafter. In a new (fresh) version there are the bugs related to the new features. Are there more bugs in old (still) or new (fresh) version is difficult to say. My personal policy is to change my production version to the new version when z>3. It’s at the end a personal preference.

@ROSt53 has the correct understanding of the train (parallel) release approach.
