You are making life difficult for me because I can’t keep running logs without jumping through hoops everytime I open a saved file.

As commented in the bug, seems it’s solved for 4.4 versions.

Fixed with v 4.4.3. One could also add bookmarks too.
This problem has reared its ugly head again in v 6.02.1.
Also it is apparently impossible to save a workspace configuration. Everything (especially dockers) seem to return to default settings. Saving a document does NOT preserve preferences.
Sigh… The working position is user-specific, i.e. different users can have different saved positions in the same doc. Unless you have your user details (username) defined in options, LibreOffice cannot tell what is your specific position there.
If you use some containerized solution (like docker, etc), then you should account for the side effects of that yourself. Containers are created to keep things internal. So you should be prepared to re-enter your user data and settings.
So you’re telling me Libre Office is designed for multi-user environments, to the detriment of single users, like me, who have one copy of the software installed on one machine?
I have user data entered. Writer returns to the cursor position, but sidebar reverts to default. For example, Navigator refuses to retain the state I set up: all levels exposed and visiblel, not behind a [+]button. Perhaps I should leave you alone and return to Apache, which with all its flaws, still behaves for me.
At least Calc didn’t require user data to perform exactly as expected.
So I’m telling you that it has been that way since OOo; it was implemented in 2005 (see i#43146; the current implementation was first mentioned in comment 55, but it’s worth to read through to understand different PoVs and agruments). This hasn’t changed in AOO or LO, so you are wrong in your last claim.
And I’m also telling you that bugs should be filed, not bashed upon - that’s about Navigator (which I didn’t understand from your text).
Mike: I don’t understand your snarkiness, other than maybe you’ve been at this longer than I have. I came to OOo, then Apache, and now Libre, because of the promise of a better and easier-to use package than Mega-bloat Office. Mostly, that promise has been kept. I am just a user who gets frustrated when, looking for a solution to why something that WAS working just fine suddenly doesn’t anymore, is treated like a pariah. I’m not bashing the software. Or you. I’m asking for help, not a scolding.
Well - that’s OK; but please try to think how phrases like “So you’re telling me Libre Office is designed for …, to the detriment of single users, like me, who … Perhaps I should leave you alone and …” - this is not looking for help, that’s emotional declaration. I started with description of why the software behaves like it does - you begun to tell it does that to detriment you, and that the other works differently, so you feel that LO got worse. I told you that that’s mistake…
… so frustration happens (to anyone, for different reasons), but trying to express it on a forum where users help other users, only leads to equivalently emotional response. However frustrated you could be, it’s best to try to limit to precise explanation of your problem, and ask why is that and how to fix, but avoid expressing emotions.
And I want to repeat, that a bug (as you seem to have - I didn’t get it quite clear from your description - about Navigator) should be filed to bug tracker. There it may get acted upon; here on Ask forum, it can only be forgotten.
