How to apply document themes in Writer

I’m struggling to get Format-Themes to work in Writer. The colours don’t change. Nothing changes

Using Document Themes

Thanks but this is the same information as in the user guide. It’s not helping me in real life. I have default black, heading 1 or body text for example. I select it then go to Format-Theme, and select a theme as suggested and nothing changes

As explained in the help, only the colors that refer to theme will change. “Black” is black in any case; “Dark 2” will change.

Anyway: you didn’t tell in your question that you had read the user guide (so how could @Hrbrgr know that the help is of no use for you?)

The color set is a sequence of 12 colors: Dark 1, Light 1, Dark 2, Light 2, Accent 1, Accent 2, Accent 3, Accent 4, Accent 5, Accent6, Hyperlink, FollowedHyperlink.

Filed tdf#159500.

I apologise to @Hrbrgr if my tone came over as unappreciative. I am so grateful that anything is even understanding what I am referring to and offering an explanation.
So if I begin with back it will never change using any theme? If I start with Dark 2 it will change?
Can I only change/format what is already typed rather than set the theme before typing?
I thank you for any answer you can give.

The idea is, that when you create a document that should use themes, you set colors (that should depend on themes) to one of those 12 colors. This is important for e.g. Impress presentations (and likely, there will be some templates already using these colors)… but of course, you can also set colors manually in Writer / Calc documents as well.

To emphasize again: only objects that you set to one of these colors, will change colors automatically, when you change themes.

Available since version 7.6?

I’m so very sorry for being so ignorant. Clearly this should be straightforward and obvious yet I just don’t get it.
There’s 8 preset themes showing 8 colours. They don’t name the colours when you mouse over them but I could gather which was Dark Red 2 from the ‘LibreOffice’ theme so I typed the words Heading 1 using Header 1 style in Dark Red 2. Then I selected the text and changed the theme to Ocean which has no reds in it. Nothing changed.

I tried starting with a template letter that had colour in it. Changed the theme and nothing changed

… and that color was…?

There was a background band of green. The text was highlighted but when I replaced the name with my name it removed the highlight and was black text.
I only changed this bit of the template.
The Green band remained

Yes that is what the User Guide says.
