25.8 will not open

Newly updated LibreOffice to 25.8 will not open on desktop. Can I download an earlier version that will?

I can only say that LibreOffice offered an update to 25.8. It was probably on August 27 or 28. It took several minutes. There were the usual requests for donation, group photo, etc. Now I’m stuck. We’ve used LibreOffice with no problem for many years. I don’t recall what the earlier version was. I am not computer savvy, to say the least. But you probably have that figured out already. Thank you for your help. I have to leave the office now; will return tomorrow mid-day.

This link is available at the bottom of the download page:

If you are on Windows then try this, otherwise state what operating system and version you are using.

First go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features, right click LibreOffice and select Repair. After it has completed does LibreOffice start OK?

If not, click Start menu > All (or Programs for Win 10) > LibreOffice > LibreOffice (Safe Mode). Does LibreOffice show a Safe Mode dialogue? If so then try first:

  1. Click Configure and then Disable hardware acceleration (OpenGL, OpenCL, Vulkan)
  2. Click Apply Changes and Restart

Does LibreOffice start OK? If so then click Tools > Options > View and tick the box Force Skia software rendering. Click OK and allow LibreOffice to restart.

If it doesn’t start then it could be a corrupted user profile or it could be an anti virus program preventing LO from starting.

Did it!! I think. Actually, I uninstalled and reinstalled, or something like that. Thank you for your patience and guidance. Just in time! Here’s our bookkeeper.

It’s fixed. I found a delete and re-download, or something like that. On we go. Thanks for your help.

Thank you. I managed to delete and re-download 25.8. Or something like that. Whatever, it worked and we’re back in Libre business.
