7.4.4.2 Writer Crashes and recovers frequently

I just updated to LibreOffice 7.4.4.2 (x64) on Windows 11. The document I am writing keeps crashing every few minutes, and I have to use the recovery tool. Sometimes I get a few short minutes before the crash, other times I get an hour or two of writing done. I save often, which is a good habit anyway, but I’m concerned with data corruption after so many crashes and recoveries.

All my drivers, software, everything, is updated and current. What can I do?

EDIT: right before the crash, LibreOffice completely stalls, ignoring all input from the the mouse and keyboard. Also, I hear my liquid cooler fan on the CPU wind up quite a lot for about 5-10 seconds. It is like LibreOffice goes into overdrive, ramping up the CPU or having memory leaks.

Please test in safe mode, Menu/Help/Restart in Safe Mode

I did not know Safe Mode was a thing. I learned something new! When in the menu, I reset LibreOffice back to defaults, just in case. I don’t think I installed anything external, but better safe than sorry.

Should I continue writing in safe mode, or, now that I reset to defaults, switch to normal mode? What are my next steps?

If I’m right, restarting returns to the normal mode.

Excellent, and thank you. If I get repeat behaviour, I’ll revisit this thread.

Use normal mode. Safe mode is a good option to test, if your profile may get damaged, without needing to actually change the profile. If safe-mode helps, rename the old profile, so a new one will be generated by LibreOffice.
.
Keep the old renamed profile for a while as backup, in case you need some macros, dictionaries etc from the profile.
.
Working always in safe-mode would imply your settings are never used again. Usually not what most people wish.
