Read about Safe Mode, hardware acceleration, file associations, blah blah blay! IMHO Libre is POS. DO NOT USE. 1 MILLION USERS? COULD CARE LESS!
adding 7.3.6 starts up ok. How can 7.3.6 start ok, and 7.4.6 will NOT start at all. Inexcusable to NOT provide an error message. Should count myself lucky the 7.4.6 did NOT break my system. At least not yet!
How long will it take Libere to fix this?
This is 4/3/2023 12:03 pm. Let’s count the days? Or months? Or years, since rea here this instant crash problem is apparenty NOT new. Point finger at Microsoft. I don’t care. Microsoft is NOT going to fix Liber 7.4.6. And Libre has NOT to date. Hint to Libre: Why does 7.3.6 NOT have this 7.4.6 startup problem?
Had recommended 7.3.6 to many friends. Now need to tell them Libre is POS.
I guess you don’t expect any answer for that non-question.
I know that you are not interested but here is a likely/possible solution. LO calc 7.4.5.1 keeps crashing Windows 10 - #2 by EarnestAl
Why does 7.3.6 NOT have this 7.4.6 startup problem?
Same environment for BOTH. Same harware. Same OS. ONLY difference is which version of Libreoffice. Why???
I don’t think there is a viable answer to someone who started with
If you think there is nothing changed inside the code but the version number, then use 7.3 or use whatever software you like. And if you think this kind of stuff does not happen elsewhere: good luck.
.
But of course you are right: No program should fail to tell, when it is killed. (And: Yes this is some kind of joke…)
To expand a bit on the perfectly correct @Wanderer’s reply: exactly because LibreOffice got some changes besides the version number digits. And those changes were indeed intended to improve/fix something, but could also created problems in some specific environments that couldn’t be tested in the volunteer-driven project.
But when someone starts writing things as @iq100 does, implying that someone told them “Point finger at Microsoft” which had never happened… “Why does 7.3.6 NOT have this 7.4.6 startup problem?” vs. “this instant crash problem is apparenty NOT new” is a nice self-contradiction.
“Let’s count the days? Or months? Or years…?”
Do whatever you like. Couldn’t care less. Also you can require a refund. Any sensible person would instead ask how to help the volunteers to find and fix it, but that option doesn’t fit people like you.
One other possibility is that LibreOffice did not install properly for whatever reason. You could try:
Open Control Panel - Programs and Features, find LibreOffice, right click it and select Repair.
Or try reinstalling it
Uninstalled and installed both versions as experiment.
Same behavior. Question remains.
"Why does 7.3.6 NOT have this 7.4.6 startup problem?

Your screenshot looks virtually identical to the one for my 7.1.5.2, just version and build are different. I have Force Skia software rendering enabled on my laptop which fixed some problems I had, although it started OK. If you set that in 7.3.6.2 then when you upgrade, that setting is carried over to the new installation. Just install the new version, don’t uninstall the old.
I aleady did that. First attempt to install 7.4.6 was without unistalling 7.3.6.2. But I don’t remember if it was actually running. I see the update can be done from the running program under Help>Check for updates. Maye I will try that again, but I think I already did that. My thinking is settings would be carried over from profiles even if not running. AND LIBRE SHOULD FIX THIS IN ANY CASE. As bad as old days having to open case and flip tiny IRQ switches. LibreOffice FAILS PLUG N’ PLAY!
My suggestion was to enable Force Skia software rendering before upgrading, sorry if I wasn’t clear.
