7.4 "Document Recovery" locks up

Upgraded to 7.4. Immediately get the Document Recovery window for a 55 mg document and “Recovery Successful” message, then it locks up completely. Task Manager sez “Libra Not Responding” but Libra is using 40% of my CPU

This only confirms LO is running and does something. It may literally running in circles or needs time to load… Difficult to know from the outside.
.
I usually give the system some time (up to an hour) to sort itself, otherwise I kill LO via Task-Manager and check where my backup is.
.
Note: You can also skip recovery, if you think it is not necessary or will not be successful.

Immediately means your document was open during the update, or inmediately after you try to open this document?
Can you create a new document without error?

Thanks Wander. Here is/are answers to your questions and all the ways things….
FAILS:
When opening Libra 7.4 / Write (from the START menu) Imediately does to the Doccument Recovery Window
From here I hit the Recover Document, it does a usual recovery and in a minute I get “Sucesfully Recovered” message and it’s then everthing locks up. locks up.
Huurglass followed by Greyed out screen.
Task manager sez Libre is “Not Responding” despite about 40% of the CPY is doing (trying to do…) Libra
This is when I hit Close Program
OR, I open it up in safe mode (also from the Start Menu and…

  1. Check “Advances
  2. Reset to Factory
  3. Check Reset Entire User Profile
  4. Apply and Restart
NOPE -it still refuses to let me see the 55 mg doccument

I have saved is under a different name. Don’t work either.

Thanks Wanderer.

Some confusion as to how this all works. Sorry If I’m out’a line, but the problem persists.

Seems you are also running in circles.
I’d think you should put the big file aside first. You can deny the recovery of the file, as Calc can obviously not load it for the moment…
.
Then the first question would be, if you can create a new file, save it, close calc and try to start the saved file.
If this fails, Calc does not function on your computer now, and it is not surprising when it also fails with complex files…
.
If Calc is not running properly I would suggest to try 7.3.5 instead of the newer 7.4
.
And if you are using Windows, you may test, if an older portable version could load the file. But as said above: First step is to get a stable installaition, second to rescue the file.

Finally deleted 7.4 and loaded 6.9 (6.4?) and recovered my document. The index is more messed up than ever, but saved (most of) my work.

Thanks, that downgrade is what I needed too - from 7.6.2 to 6.4 in my case.

If LibreOffice 6.4 works for you but not 7.x then it sounds like a graphics issue. A number of graphics cards were on the OpenGL blacklist, those cards probably won’t work with Skia (replacement for OpenGL) either. You can either force software rendering of Skia or disable it. In general forcing software rendering will give better performance then disabling. See this comment for how to get 7.6.2 to work on your computer. I am assuming you are on Windows, Libre Office crash always after 30 sec - 2 min - #2 by EarnestAl

…and yes, I either have to stop Libra by using the Task Manager “End Process” or “Discard Doc” after it sez “Recovery Sucessful” and that’s a little frightening.
