User has opened .odt document for no longer than 5 seconds. She did it in Recent Documents Menu.
On closing document (File menu > Close) Writer cries loudly Do you want to save your changes?
User is not aware to had made modifications to document. Short look at Undo button on standard toolbar and button is clearly Gray. For user it’s a sign for change history since document was opened to be empty - nothing can be undone. Which document and text control areas are out of change history control?

How to see which document/text change gets lost if user selects Not to save?

That one short session - there was no intention to conduct modifications. If any was conducted then unconsciously or that tiny simply immediately forgotten or …no idea.

Undo “history” in the Edit menu is related to explicit modifications. There are other modifications under the hood and these can’t be undone, at least through the menu or Ctrl+Z.

An example of “invisible” changes is printing the document. Writer (more generally LO) will try to record the last-print-time in the metadata part of the file. What I say for printing is equally valid for any meta data. It is impossible to exhaustively enumerate all the items as they are part of “internals” and many of them are not meant to be user-accessible. They are necessary for good operation which would be seriously hampered if these parameters are tampered with.

As long as Undo history is void, you can safely ignore the warning. Some parameter changes won’t be saved but your contents is safe.
