A presentation I saved as a PowerPoint, I cannot open with Windows PowerPoint

I am using Ubuntu Zorin, and Libre Office 3. I created a presentation in Libre, then saved it as a PowerPoint because that is what they use at work. When I tried to open the pptx document, Windows could not open it. the IT people could not figure it out either. It will open fine in Libre. Is there a fix, or am I doing something wrong?

Is there really Ubuntu Zorin? I haven’t heard of such a system. Searching the web I see there is Ubuntu and there is Zorin OS - but as I see from web page: http://zorin-os.com/ there is Zorin OS Linux distribution based on Ubuntu.

First of all LibreOffice 3.X is old release which is way out of end of life support. See details: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan#End_of_Life_Releases

So you need to first upgrade LibreOffice to newer version like LibreOffice 4.2. I am not familiar with Zorin, so if you don’t know how to install new version of LibreOffice, then you should contact someone who installed the software for you - you have written that you got help from IT people, they would be perfect place to start searching for help.

It if helps, some weeks ago I have written how to install LibreOffice 4.2 in Ubuntu: LibreOffice-4-2 PPA for Ubuntu 12.04 / 13.10 - How to install - Tutorial

A lot of features and fixes where added to LibreOffice, but there is no guarantee the exported PowerPoint file is going to work on PowerPoint.

I suggest to not save a file in pptx format, but better old ppt format, which is by my experience more support.

If you are using the latest and the greatest from Microsoft Office 2013, you can also try saving in native LibreOffice format - ODF file type.
