Add a tab before a $ sign

A simple task in Microsoft word, but not able to do in LibraOffice:
Find $ in text and replace with \t$ (tab$) does not work in LibreOffice 25.8 . Setting Regular Expression does not help.

$ is a special character in regular expressions and represents the end of a paragraph or cell. If you wish to search/replace a literal $ you need to precede it with a backslash. So, Find -> \$ Replace -> \t\$

Watch out for autocorrect options which may include deleting spaces and tabs at the beginning and end of lines and paragraphs.

[Edit] Didn’t notice the backslashes had been stripped from my response by the site software; now fixed

Robleyd: wanted to replace all $ with \t$ - did not work, needed to set regular expressions but that resulted in carriage returns and $ to be reset.

See my amended solution.

Well done thank you. I am too conditioned by Microsoft’s approach and was looking for something similar. Slowly getting trained on Libre approach.

instead of using \t, you can copy/paste a TAB in the Replace field :
