I want to insert a text box in the shape of a diamond, with a word at each of the vertices. The functions for adding text to a text box do not allow for this kind of flexibility. When I try to use Drawing, there is no way to add text. Online help refers to methods for editing text boxes that are not available in my version of Libre Writer.
Which version do you have?
And which operating system?

Using Writer’s drawing tools
Whenever you need complex graphical shapes, use Draw. Writer is limited to “simple” decorations.
Every shape can be labelled. Usually this label appears in the middle of the shape (this is how a rectangle is called, by simplification, a *Text Box"). Unfortunately, a shape can only have a single label.
To get what you need/want, create first the diamond shape. Label it if this is required. Then create text boxes for the vertices labels. Position them as appropriate.
When everything is in place, select all shapes and Group them so that the collection behaves now as a single object. Copy the composite object and paste it in Writer.
Libre Office 7.3.7.2 and Ubuntu Mate 22.04.
I wouldn’t try to do it as a single shape. I would use for each word an individual text box. Then drag these text boxes to the desired position. And as last step group all five objects into a group.
OK, thanks. I’ve tried so many things that I can’t remember how to create a text box in a diamond shape. (I swear the advice from Google never applies to my version of Libre Office!) But I’ll work on it and add text boxes as you suggested.
