All my Documents were deleted, not by me

All of my 15 to 20 documents are gone. I did not delete them, the are just gone. This is very frustrating… Is there any way to recover them? They were there one day & completely gone the next, every single one. These were for work & its very frustrating.

Reopen your question (the “pencil” edit tool is hidden under the button) to make it clearer. This is not a forum, don’t use a comment or, worse, an answer.

Mention your OS name, and LO version (all 4 numbers).

Explain how you use LO. Do you start with the “Start Center” which shows the most recently used documents? This list can be changed without notice, perhaps after an update, but this is only a reference to the real documents. They are safely stored in some directory (depending on OS, hence the question). So the list may have been wiped out but your documents are still there.

What happens if you File>Open? The open dialog should point you to a default directory. Are your documents in there?

Give us as much information as possible on your routine and your way of using LO.

They are in my docs on my computer (windows) But I cannot edit them there & when I copy & paste back to LibreOffice I have to completely reformat as it will not paste the document as is… I loved this program up until now… How can I make sure this does not happen again… I need to occasionally edit these documents I create.

Then your documents were not deleted. So, what is the real question?
What do you call “I cannot edit them there”? Do they open when you double-click on their icon and LO complains about read-only? What is your “copy & paste back” operation? To copy contents you need to open the document, meaning you can enter into it.
If you expect help, please help ourselves: until further notice, we can see your screen nor monitor what you’re doing. And my telepathic skills are very very limited; I can’t connect to your mind.

It is only your Recent documents list that has been deleted by some mischance, not your documents.
You should not copy the the contents of the files to LibreOffice; you should open from LibreOffice.

  1. Open LibreOffice
  2. Maybe, you will see the file you want to open in the initial screen, if not:
  3. Click File > Open. The Open dialogue will probably open in My Documents or Documents folder. If it doesn’t, then use the dialogue to navigate to your files. Select the file you want to open and click the Open button.
