All previously LibreOffice files corrupted

Using LO on a Mac silicon (M2) and LO 25.2.3, I try to open documents saved end of last year. I have for ALL files the same error: Document corrupted, try to repair → no repair possible.

Same for ods, odt files. New files can be saved.

If I make a new file and try to open an old file now, the text conversion dialogue opens. But the resulting file is empty.

Any help here?

can you upload a screenshot here.

what happens if you copy your_file.odt to your_file.zip,
then try to open it with Finder ?

I opened now quite a lot of them – all are empty. I had copied them into the cloud system of infomaniak. Could it be, that the infomaniak cloud has problems to work with xml files? Unfortunately, they don’t reply to my questions. Are there other problems known with clouds?

Hi,

I’d advise against direct edition of documents from a cloud. Any network glitch can ruin the documents. As a (satisfied) informaniak customer, I just work with documents on a connected directory on my machine that I update on demand (ie, no automatic update between the cloud and the local directory).

Best,

“Could it be” is a way to question, where you may always get a “yes”, but it is an unlikely cause here. At first: Cloud services are usually not supposed to read/understand your files, they shall make them accessible. So it will not interpret a xml-file.
.
Also .odt-files are xml-files, hidden in a zip-archive with another extension. So the xml should not matter here. One of the typical questions is, when will the cloud service sync. If it tries to sync an open file the contents may not be valid. If all your files are empty the service may attempt to sync the files at the wrong time.
.
Check the files in the cloud itself for their size. Check also their instructions on backups. Maybe you have more than one version available…

Sure. Any you can think of plus some more.

  • Files only available for the app, wich has written them, so LibreOffice can not see a picture you wish to use, because it has not written the file to the cloud
  • A user had only empty files. He found out his settings were to only download stubs for the files he saved, not the full file. So he could see, what was available, but not access it on his new computer.
  • Exceeded capacity, so no new file was synced. Person ignored messages, because “they only want to lure me into buying more space…”
  • Not testing, if sync is done/restore is possible… User wase sure to have a backup, but had no idea where and how to access this, when the old computer broke.
