I have set the english dictionary as Default but still any American “Misspelling” is always highlighted in my texts for correction. When I look in the Spelling slot, the American Dictionary is still ticked and the English square is not ticked, inspite of my hacing chosen the default in Tools- Options- Language etc etc. It is infuriating!
Please tell me how I can correct this? Why can I not kick out the Ametrican dictionary?
Regards
In the attached example, the UK column has been assigned the English USA paragraph style.
Writer then recognizes it as misspelled.
Assign parts of the UK column to the English UK paragraph style and it will be recognized as correct.
Conclusion: Your underlined words have not been assigned the correct language.

Sorry. This was no help for me; I could find nothing to alter and some defaults are greyed out.
Lets start at the beginning.
In the menu, click Tools > Options > Languages and Locales.
- Set your Locale for the country where you are located
- Under Default Languages for Documents, in Western, select English (UK), or English variation of your choice. It should have a green tick next to it to indicate that the dictionary for that language is installed.
OK. Now new documents should use English (UK).
For existing documents, if the entire document should be in English (UK), then normally changing Default Paragraph Style to English (UK) will fix the issue. However, if the document has been direct formatted, especially with copy and pasted text from American sources, then you could click Tools > Language > For all text > English (UK). Another method would be to clear direct formatting.
