App installs, but won't run (v4.0.1 on MacOS10.6.8)

Everything seemed fine with the installer, but when I ran LibreOffice v4.0.1, it gave an “app quit unexpectedly” error.

Have others been seeing this? Nothing came up in the history when I searched.
Where can I look to provide a meaningful error message?
