Appearance of Quotation marks

Anyone kindly advise why in some data in LibreOffice Calc I am sometimes getting Quotation marks at the beginning and sometimes at the beginning and end of a word or space.

@kevin8463,
Please, edit your question to add where the data comes from. Are you importing a .csv file? Thanks.

Single quote ' in front of the cell text means that the cell has a number format, but its content is a text which, if needed, could be converted to a number. I.e., if a cell is formatted as text, or if its text is not convertible to a number, then the ' would not appear, and the ' helps user to see that something looking as if it were a number is in fact a text (it is purely decorative mark, not part of the cell data).

Single quotes around something may appear in multiple contexts. E.g., when you have file names in external references; or when you refer to a sheet with spaces and other special characters in its name; or when you refer to an automatic row/column name …
