Ask about this image [when "try to paste into Google search box"]

Maybe I didn’t notice before, but here is my issue: When I select a ‘word’ in LibreOffice Writer and try to paste into Google search box I see the following statement: Ask about this image. I have to manually type the word or words into the search box in order to proceed. If I select a word from a website and copy / paste into Google search box, everything works just fine.

LibreOffice v 25.8.3.2 HP desktop PC Windows 11 64 bit v25H2 2600.7171

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Find an application (that maybe sits in your tray, otherwise look at task manager), closing which fixes the problem. It would be your clipboard destroyer.

Thanks for replying,

Per a Google search, there is no clipboard destroyer in Windows 11. The suggestion was to clear the ‘data’ on clipboard by going to: System / Clipboard and clear the data and also to turn off and then on again Clipboard History. What ‘application’ am I looking for in the system tray or in Task Manager?

Those steps did not solve my problem.

I have absolutely no idea what app may unexpectedly appear to manage clipboard. One such application, that caused a bug, happened to be “MP3Studio YouTube Downloader”. Who could’ve guessed! So - just try to disable everything, one by one.

Let’s try this test.
Select a word and copy it to the clipboard.
What appears when you click the down arrow to the right of the Paste button?

Hope this helps

OK - I see already that I am copying text ‘not’ from LibreOffice Writer, but from LibreOffice Calc. I suppose that changes everything. Sorry.

Aha, yes: for Calc, that is reproducible. Calc provides image formats in clipboard; and Google detects that. Use “Paste as plain text” context menu element (Ctrl+Shift+V):

Ctrl+Shift+V – Didn’t work. You know, I’m 80 years old, and since I do this copy/paste thing, like all the time, I’m beginning to think that maybe I haven’t done this ‘particular’ process, before. That being, copy / pasting from LibreOffice Calc into Google. Maybe there is a way, but maybe I should just drop this discussion.

Thanks anyway everybody

It seems to be a bug in Google, trying to push AI I suppose.
I use Duck Duck Go as the default search engine for my browser, it offers better privacy. Pasting into the search bar there gives expected results.

Try pasting the search term into the Address Bar at the top of the browser page
PasteCalcSearchTermIntoBrowserAddressBar

EarnestAI - Gets the ‘gold star’. - Success! That worked.

Thanks
